'The Pitt': Cut Scene Reveals a Doctor's Hidden Affection
Despite his limited screen time, Dr. Abbot, played by Shawn Hatosy, is a significant character in "The Pitt." He appears early in the series, conversing with Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) before his shift ends and later returns during the PittFest mass shooting event. While Dr. Abbot's relationship with Dr. Robby is notable, new details have emerged regarding his potential romantic interests.
In an interview with Variety, Hatosy discussed "The Pitt" and revealed a deleted scene from Season 1 that would have explored Dr. Abbot's feelings for Dr. Mohan, portrayed by Supriya Ganesh.
A Glimpse of What Could Have Been
Hatosy shared details about a specific line that was cut from the first episode. According to Hatosy, the scene involved another character commenting on Dr. Mohan's pace, to which Dr. Abbot would respond, "She's the smartest person here." Hatosy believes this line indicated a potential romantic direction for his character.
Hatosy openly discussed his interpretation of the scene, confirming the chemistry that fans have speculated about since the show's premiere. "I think he likes her," Hatosy stated, elaborating on the reasons behind Dr. Abbot's feelings: "He has admiration for her brain, there's something there. When you're working closely with somebody that can evolve. So I think there's a flirtation."
He did, however, express caution, adding, "I don't want to sound creepy when I say it because he's in the power position."
Other Key Players in "The Pitt"
While Dr. Abbot and Dr. Mohan are essential to the functioning of Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, other characters are also vital. Dr. Heather Collins (Tracy Ifeachor), who shares a romantic history with Dr. Robby, is arguably the second-most qualified doctor in the ER. Dana Evans (Katherine LaNasa), though not a doctor, is crucial in holding the hospital together.
Ifeachor is expected to return for Season 2, but LaNasa's involvement remains uncertain.
What to Expect in Season 2
"The Pitt" was renewed for a second season before the Season 1 finale, and it is set to premiere on Max at the beginning of next year. The new season will feature a time jump of just under a year and will take place over the Fourth of July weekend. The show's format will remain consistent, continuing to depict events within a single shift at Pittsburgh Medical Trauma Center.
All episodes of "The Pitt" Season 1 are currently available for streaming.
