Succession Star Jeremy Strong to Lead Netflix's Thriller Series 'Boys from Brazil'

Emmy-winning actor Jeremy Strong is set to star in Netflix's upcoming adaptation of 'The Boys from Brazil,' marking his first major television role since his acclaimed performance in Succession. The series will be penned by Peter Morgan, the creative force behind 'The Crown,' with former Crown producer Suzanne Mackie serving as executive producer.

Project Details and Source Material

The series is based on Ira Levin's 1976 novel, which was previously adapted into an Oscar-nominated film in 1978 starring Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier. While Netflix has yet to make an official announcement, Peter Morgan confirmed his involvement with the project during a 2024 interview.

Strong will take on the role of Yakov Liebermann, the Nazi hunter originally portrayed by Laurence Olivier in the 1978 film. The story follows Liebermann as he receives a tip about Dr. Josef Mengele living under a false identity in Brazil. As he travels to South America in pursuit of the notorious "Angel of Death," Liebermann becomes entangled in an unexpected conspiracy.

Jeremy Strong's Rising Career

This role represents Strong's first major television commitment following his powerful four-season run as Kendall Roy in Succession, a performance that earned him three Emmy nominations and one win. The actor has recently garnered attention for his portrayal of Roy Cohn in 'The Apprentice,' starring alongside Sebastian Stan as young Donald Trump, which earned Strong his first Oscar nomination. His impressive filmography includes notable roles in 'The Big Short,' 'Zero Dark Thirty,' and 'Parkland.'

Peter Morgan's Creative Vision

The adaptation will benefit from Peter Morgan's proven track record in historical drama. Morgan recently concluded his work on 'The Crown,' which ended its six-season run in 2023. Under his leadership as showrunner, the series accumulated an impressive 94 Emmy nominations, winning 24 awards. Morgan's screenplay credentials include Oscar-nominated films 'The Queen' and 'Frost/Nixon,' as well as acclaimed works such as 'The Last King of Scotland,' 'Rush,' and 'The Other Boleyn Girl.'
