Roland Emmerich Hints at 'Those About to Die' Season 2 Renewal with Anthony Hopkins

Renowned director Roland Emmerich has suggested that the ancient Rome television series Those About to Die, starring Anthony Hopkins, has been renewed for a second season. In a recent interview on the Bingeworthy podcast, Emmerich discussed his upcoming projects, mentioning the second season of Those About to Die as almost a certainty.

Peacock Yet to Make Official Announcement

Although the streaming platform Peacock has not yet officially announced the renewal, Emmerich's comments have generated excitement on social media. The director stated, "I have a big movie project. I don't know yet if I should do the second season of Those About to Die first, or do the movie and then shoot the second season."

Those About to Die Adapted from a Book

The series Those About to Die is adapted from the book of the same name by Daniel P. Mannix. It tells the story of the world of gladiators in ancient Rome. Featuring a star-studded cast including Anthony Hopkins, Dimitri Leonidas, Jojo Macari, Gabriella Pession, and Iwan Rheon, the series was released in its entirety on July 18.

$140 Million Budget

With an impressive budget of $140 million, the series has a good chance of being renewed for a second season to recoup the investment. Additionally, all recent Peacock series that have appeared on Nielsen's viewership rankings have been renewed, which bodes well for Those About to Die.

Casting Changes Expected

If a second season is confirmed, changes in the cast are expected. Jojo Macari is likely to return as Domitian Flavianus, and Iwan Rheon as Tenax. However, most of the characters who died in the first season will not be returning.

No Release Date Yet

With its gladiator fights, political intrigue, ambition, and action, the series has received positive reviews from the start. However, no release date has been announced for season 2. Given the scale of the production, preparing the new season will likely take time.
