Robert Pattinson and "Smile" Director Remake Cult Horror Film "Possession"
The cult horror film "Possession" is being remade. Renowned actor Robert Pattinson and Parker Finn, known for "Smile," have begun working on the project together. "Possession" is set to return to the big screen with a new team. Robert Pattinson and Parker Finn, the director of "Smile," are joining forces to reimagine this classic horror film.
Originally released in 1981 under the direction of Andrzej Zulawski, "Possession" was one of the most controversial horror films of its time. Over the years, it gained cult status and a unique place in the horror genre. Now, this distinctive work is being revisited by two prominent figures in modern cinema, Robert Pattinson and Parker Finn.
News of the project quickly made waves. Although it is still in the early stages of production, major studios like A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros. are already competing for the film rights. Parker Finn will write, direct, and produce the film. His production company, Bad Feeling, and Pattinson’s company, Icki Eneo Arlo, will work together with Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment. Roy Lee previously produced the highly acclaimed film "Barbarian" by Zach Cregger.
Will Robert Pattinson Also Star in the New "Possession" Film?
"Possession" tells a tense story set in West Berlin during the Cold War. In the original film, Sam Neill plays Mark, a spy who returns from a mission to find that his wife Anna (played by Isabelle Adjani) wants a divorce. This divorce request is the beginning of unexpected and terrifying events. Anna's increasingly strange and frightening behavior leads her into a relationship with a tentacled creature. Inspired by Zulawski's personal experiences, the film did not receive the expected attention when it was first released, but it has gained a solid place among critics and audiences over the years.
Parker Finn, who achieved great success with "Smile," aims to make a similar impact with this project. "Smile," despite its low budget, grossed 216 million dollars worldwide, becoming one of the most successful horror films of 2022.
Robert Pattinson, while preparing to return to the big screen with "The Batman 2" and the highly anticipated "Mickey 17" by Bong Joon Ho, is also aiming to make an impact as a producer. For now, he is only involved as a producer on the "Possession" project, but it is expected that he will also take on the lead role. However, no official announcement has been made yet.
