Robert De Niro Set to Lead Russo Brothers' Netflix Thriller 'The Whisper Man'
In an exciting development for thriller fans, Robert De Niro is set to headline "The Whisper Man," a new Netflix project produced by the Russo Brothers. The film, which adapts Alex North's New York Times bestseller, will be directed by James Ashcroft, marking a significant collaboration between the legendary actor and the successful producing duo.
A Dark Tale of Family and Mystery
The story follows a crime novelist grappling with the loss of his wife when his world is shattered by the disappearance of his eight-year-old son. Forced to reconnect with his estranged father, a retired police detective, he uncovers disturbing connections to a decades-old serial killer case involving a figure known as "The Whisper Man."
Behind the Camera
The screenplay, crafted by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, brings North's gripping narrative to life. Production is scheduled to commence this spring along the East Coast of the United States. The project brings together a powerhouse production team, with Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Michael Disco serving as producers.
A Perfect Match of Talent and Story
Angela Russo-Otstot, AGBO's Creative Director, emphasizes the film's emotional core: "At its heart, 'The Whisper Man' is a compelling thriller that deeply explores the father-son relationship. Having Robert De Niro, one of the most talented actors of his generation, bring this story to life under James Ashcroft's skilled direction is truly exciting."
Building on Strong Partnerships
This project marks the sixth collaboration between Netflix and AGBO, following successful ventures such as:
"Mosul" (2019)
"Extraction" (2020) starring Chris Hemsworth
"The Gray Man" (2022) featuring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans
"Extraction 2" (2023)
De Niro's Growing Netflix Portfolio
De Niro's relationship with Netflix continues to flourish since his Oscar-nominated performance in "The Irishman." The actor is also set to star in the platform's drama series "Zero Day," where he'll portray former president George Mullen embroiled in a dangerous conspiracy. Additionally, he's taking on a dual role in Warner Bros.' "The Alto Knights."
Looking Ahead
While De Niro prepares for "The Whisper Man," AGBO is also developing "The Electric State," a sci-fi adventure featuring an ensemble cast including Millie Bobby Brown, Chris Pratt, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, and Woody Norman. Fresh off his Oscar nomination for portraying William King Hale in Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon," De Niro shows no signs of slowing down, continuing to tackle challenging and diverse roles that showcase his legendary talent.
