Orlando Bloom Considers Return to Middle-earth in New 'Lord of the Rings' Film
Orlando Bloom might be heading back to Middle-earth after a decade-long break. The actor, famous for playing Legolas in "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, is in talks for Andy Serkis's new film, "The Hunt for Gollum."
J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" books continue to inspire the worlds of movies, TV, and games. Right now, fans are glued to their screens watching the second season of "The Rings of Power" on Prime Video. And guess what? 2024 will end with a bang as we get to see "The War of the Rohirrim," an animated adventure set in Middle-earth.
But wait, there's more! New Line Cinema, the studio behind the original "Lord of the Rings" movies, is cooking up another exciting project: "The Hunt for Gollum." Andy Serkis, the mastermind behind Gollum's creepy voice and movements, will not only direct but also star in this new film. And here's the best part – we might see some familiar faces from the "Lord of the Rings" universe!
Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) have always left the door open for a return to the series. Now, Orlando Bloom, who stole our hearts as the elf prince Legolas, might join them.
Orlando Bloom Dishes on "The Hunt for Gollum"
Bloom spilled the beans about the new live-action "Lord of the Rings" film, which has Peter Jackson as an executive producer. He revealed that he's been contacted about a possible role.
"I've chatted with Andy Serkis about the project," Bloom shared. "He filled me in on what they have in mind."
Bloom added, "I guess these days you can do anything with AI. But if Pete [Peter Jackson] says 'Jump!', I'll ask 'How high?' My whole career kicked off thanks to him."
"The Hunt for Gollum" is expected to hit theaters in 2026. Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, the brilliant minds behind the original trilogy's scripts, are also on board as producers. This film could open the floodgates for a whole bunch of new "Lord of the Rings" movies!
Bloom wrapped up by saying, "I'm not really sure what they're planning. I talked to Andy [Serkis] and he told me what he wants to do. I asked, 'How will that work?' and he just said, 'AI,' and I was like, 'Okay.' It was such a magical time in my life and one of those things that was just flawless."
Recently, 85-year-old Ian McKellen, who played Gandalf, mentioned that the script isn't ready yet. He thinks the team needs to get a move on!
While we wait for more news about "The Hunt for Gollum," you can catch Orlando Bloom in "The Cut," a new film by Sean Ellis, coming out this year.
