Natalie Portman Teases Potential Star Wars Return as Jedi
Natalie Portman has offered fans a tantalizing glimpse into a possible future in the Star Wars universe, suggesting a thrilling way for her character, Padmé Amidala, to return to the saga.
Two decades after the release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, where Padmé met her tragic end, Portman envisions a bold and exciting resurrection for her character. Her idea involves a lightsaber and a significant upgrade in Force abilities.
A Jedi Padmé?
During an appearance on The One Show, while promoting her upcoming film Fountain of Youth, Portman was asked about the possibility of reprising her role in the Star Wars galaxy. Her response was enthusiastic, suggesting a compelling direction for Padmé's return: becoming a Jedi.
"With a lightsaber," Portman stated. "I think she’d have to be a Jedi. If somehow she were brought back from the dead, that would be exciting.” This concept introduces a fresh and dynamic twist to Padmé's character, potentially captivating audiences and expanding her narrative beyond her established role in the prequel trilogy.
While there are currently no confirmed plans for Padmé's return, the notion of her wielding the Force presents an intriguing possibility. The Star Wars canon has increasingly explored themes of cloning, spiritual rebirth, and the existence of Force ghosts, making Padmé's resurrection within the realm of possibility. The phrase "Somehow, Palpatine returned" opened the doors for unexpected character revivals, and now, perhaps, it's Padmé's turn.
Beyond Star Wars: Fountain of Youth
Portman also discussed her new project, Fountain of Youth, a Guy Ritchie-directed adventure film. She expressed that this role allowed her to experience the adventurous spirit she felt was lacking in her childhood. "I had no adventure growing up," Portman shared, contrasting her quiet upbringing with her current desire for thrilling experiences.
Currently in her 40s, Portman continues to navigate a diverse range of roles, from serious dramas to large-scale productions. Her recent about Star Wars indicate a lingering connection to the franchise that propelled her to global fame. With several Star Wars projects in development, including Starfighter, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Dawn of the Jedi, and films from directors James Mangold and Dave Filoni, the timing might be perfect for Lucasfilm to surprise fans with a familiar face – perhaps one wielding a lightsaber as a Force ghost – from the past.
