Marvel's 2025 Movie Lineup: Captain America, Fantastic Four & More!

Marvel Studios is gearing up for a massive year in 2025, aiming to deliver a blockbuster-filled cinematic experience after a somewhat quieter 2024. With a slate of highly anticipated movies, Marvel hopes to reclaim its position as a dominant force in theaters. Get ready for a thrilling year packed with superheroes, villains, and interdimensional adventures.

2024 saw a mix of successes and failures for Marvel, with both Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures contributing to the cinematic landscape. While Sony's efforts had mixed results, "Deadpool & Wolverine" proved to be a major hit for the MCU.

However, 2025 promises a shift in momentum, with expectations high for a year potentially marking Marvel Studios' best yet, encompassing both film and television projects. Marvel is planning to release half a dozen shows on Disney+, in addition to the three major movie releases. This ambitious schedule signals a renewed on expanding the MCU across multiple platforms and engaging fans with a diverse range of stories.

Captain America: Brave New World - February 14

Kicking off the year is "Captain America: Brave New World," slated for release on Valentine's Day. This film marks the fourth solo outing for Captain America and the first since 2016's "Captain America: Civil War." More significantly, it will be the first film to feature Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson taking on the Captain America mantle, following the events of "Avengers: Endgame" and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier." Sam Wilson will be joined by allies like Joaquin Torres (Falcon), played by Danny Ramirez, and Ruth Bat-Seraph (Sabra), portrayed by Shira Haas.

They'll face formidable adversaries in Tim Blake Nelson's Leader and Harrison Ford's Red Hulk. Trailers and marketing materials suggest a plotline where President Ross seeks to bring the Avengers back under government control, thrusting Sam Wilson back into the spotlight. The movie will also introduce the MCU's version of Adamantium, derived from the dead Celestial seen in "Eternals." While many plot details remain tightly guarded, "Captain America: Brave New World" is confirmed to connect to key events from past MCU projects, including "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," "Avengers: Endgame," and "Captain America: Civil War."

Thunderbolts - May 2

Taking the summer blockbuster slot is "Thunderbolts*," the concluding film in Marvel Studios' Phase 5. This film assembles a team of morally ambiguous characters led by Florence Pugh's Yelena Belova, embarking on an epic mission. The cast boasts a lineup of familiar faces, including John Walker, Bucky Barnes, Ghost, Taskmaster, and the Red Guardian, alongside Yelena. The film will also introduce Lewis Pullman (from "Top Gun: Maverick") as Sentry, a character renowned for his immense power in Marvel Comics.

A "Deadpool"-esque synopsis describes "Thunderbolts*" as focusing on "the MCU's least anticipated band of misfits," reluctantly collaborating under the guidance of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus). The asterisk in the title adds another layer of mystery, generating even more anticipation. Despite fans having seen more promotional footage of "Thunderbolts*" compared to other MCU films at similar stages, plot details remain largely concealed as the team prepares to close out Phase 5.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps - July 25 Arguably the most eagerly awaited movie of the year, "The Fantastic Four: First Steps," is Marvel Studios' long-awaited attempt to bring Marvel's First Family to the big screen. The film was first announced in December 2020. On Valentine's Day 2024, Marvel revealed the cast for the iconic quartet: Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm. Ralph Ineson will portray Galactus, and John Malkovich and Julia Garner are also set to star.

Set in a universe distinct from the main MCU timeline, "The Fantastic Four" will showcase a retro-futuristic, 1960s-inspired aesthetic as the team evolves into heroes. They will confront Galactus, the Destroyer of Worlds, and the Silver Surfer, who threaten their universe. Potentially, this film could even pave the way for Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom to emerge as the Multiverse Saga's ultimate antagonist.
