Marvel Unveils New Animation Projects at D23 Expo: X-Men, Spider-Man, and More

Marvel made a splash at this year's D23 Expo by revealing its future animation projects. Following the success of "What If...?" and "X-Men '97", the studio is betting big on cartoons for Disney+. Here's a glimpse of the upcoming releases:

X-Men '97 Season 2

The second season of "X-Men '97" is already in the works. Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Animation, confirmed that the series is still in early development. The first images show Wolverine's return after his injuries in season 1. New characters will join the team: Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, and Polaris.

Actors Cal Dodd and Lenore Zann, who voice Wolverine and Rogue, gave some hints about the plot. Wolverine will team up with Bishop, while Rogue will embark on her own heroic journey.

What If...? Season 3

Marvel Animation's flagship series is preparing a spectacular final season. An episode titled "Go-Avenger: Heroes of Gamma War" will feature heroes piloting giant mechanical armor, Gundam-style. We'll see Captain America, Red Guardian, Photon, Moon Knight, and Shang-Chi battling enemies affected by gamma radiation.

Eyes of Wakanda

This new anthology series will explore the history of Wakanda and its connections to the rest of the Marvel universe. A clip presented at D23 Expo introduced Noni, a disruptive character from Wakanda. The series will draw inspiration from the artistic styles of Ernie Barnes and Dean Cornwell for a hand-drawn feel.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man

This animated series will offer a different take on Spider-Man compared to the films. Colman Domingo will voice Norman Osborn, while Hudson Thames will portray Peter Parker. The relationship between Osborn and Parker will be explored from a new angle, with Osborn playing a mentor role. Other characters like Lonnie Lincoln, Dr. Curtis Connors, Amadeus Cho, and Nico Minoru will make appearances.

Marvel Zombies

This four-episode mini-series will follow up on the zombie episode from "What If...?". Rated TV-MA (not recommended for under 17s), it promises to be darker and more violent. A clip shows Shang-Chi and Katy in a post-apocalyptic world, five years after a zombie invasion.

With these new series, Marvel confirms its commitment to animation and promises original stories for all fans of the Marvel universe.
