Jared Leto Cast as Skeletor in New He-Man Movie by Amazon MGM Studios

Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto is set to bring one of pop culture's most iconic villains to life in Amazon MGM Studios' upcoming live-action adaptation of "Masters of the Universe." The acclaimed performer will take on the role of Skeletor, He-Man's archenemies and the dark sorcerer of Eternia.

A New Chapter in the Masters of the Universe Saga

Since its creation in 1981, He-Man has remained a cornerstone of popular culture, beginning as a toy line before expanding into animated series and other media. While audiences recently experienced the world of Masters of the Universe through Netflix's animated series, the franchise is now preparing for its return to the big screen in live-action form.

Star-Studded Cast Assembles for Eternia

The production has assembled an impressive ensemble cast alongside Leto. Nicholas Galitzine will step into the role of He-Man, while Camila Mendes takes on the warrior Teela. Alison Brie joins as the powerful Evil-Lyn, and Idris Elba will portray the loyal Man-at-Arms (General Duncan).

Additional casting includes Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, rounding out the colorful cast of characters that populate the world of Eternia.

Behind the Camera

"Bumblebee" director Travis Knight will helm the project, working from a screenplay by "ParaNorman" writer Chris Butler. The production weathered several developmental challenges, including changes in directors, studios, and writing teams before settling into its current form.

Leto's Journey to Eternia

Jared Leto, who won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2014 for "Dallas Buyers Club," has recently made his mark in genre films with memorable portrayals of the Joker in "Suicide Squad" and the titular character in "Morbius." As Skeletor, Leto will inherit a role previously portrayed by Frank Langella in the 1987 "Masters of the Universe" film.

The movie is scheduled to release in theaters in June 2026.
