Henry Cavill to Star in New "Highlander" Film Starting Filming in 2025
The Highlander film will begin shooting in Scotland in January 2025. The film will be directed by Chad Stahelski, known for the John Wick series.
After a long wait, Highlander is finally entering pre-production. It will be a remake of the 1986 film of the same name, which starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery, and was directed by Russell Mulcahy.
Though the 1986 film was a box office failure, it gained cult status over time, expanding its universe with three sequels and two live-action TV series. While the series' return was announced in 2008, the project remained on hold for a long time. In 2023, Lionsgate confirmed that the project was back on track.
This action and fantasy film follows the story of Connor MacLeod, an immortal Scottish sword master, who embarks on an adventure to fight his eternal enemy. Despite its lackluster box office performance, the Highlander series gained a strong fan base through viewers at home. The critical and financial failure of the 2007 film, The Source, halted any further sequels.
But now, with Chad Stahelski and Henry Cavill, this cult fantasy franchise is returning to the big screen. Cavill is reportedly undergoing intensive training for the lead role, raising expectations for the action scenes. No release date has been announced yet.
