Henry Cavill in Talks for Lead Role in New Star Wars Trilogy, Reports Suggest
Hollywood star Henry Cavill might soon trade his Superman cape for a lightsaber, as reports suggest he's in early talks to headline Disney's upcoming Star Wars trilogy. The news comes as Lucasfilm plans its return to the big screen after focusing on streaming content in recent years.
Disney's Big-Screen Return to a Galaxy Far, Far Away
While Star Wars has recently dominated Disney Plus with series like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, the franchise is preparing for a theatrical comeback. Disney has partnered with Simon Kinberg, known for his work on the X-Men films, to develop a new trilogy set after the events of "The Rise of Skywalker."
From The Witcher to Jedi Knight?
Industry insider MTTSH reports that Disney has initiated discussions with Henry Cavill for the lead role. The actor, famous for portraying Superman, Sherlock Holmes, and Geralt of Rivia, has previously expressed his interest in joining the Star Wars universe, though with some reservations.
"I'm a fan of the series," Cavill stated in a past interview. "But before committing to any role, I'd need to read the script and speak with the director. It's not as straightforward as it might seem. Yes, it would be fun and ideal for me, but what if the script isn't good?"
Creative Control and Future Prospects
Cavill's concern about script quality isn't unfounded. The actor previously departed Netflix's "The Witcher" due to creative differences, suggesting he prioritizes story integrity over franchise appeal. The new trilogy will be written by Simon Kinberg in collaboration with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who will also produce the series.
