HBO Announces "Harry Potter" Series
HBO has announced a new Harry Potter series with Francesca Gardiner, known for her work on Succession, Killing Eve, and His Dark Materials, as the lead writer. Mark Mylod, also from Succession, will join the project as one of the directors.
Originally announced for Max, the Harry Potter series will now be aired on HBO. The series is set for an active development phase, adapting each of J.K. Rowling's seven books about the young wizard Harry Potter into a separate season. David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, announced that the series is slated to premiere in 2026.
Emmy-winning director Mark Mylod from Succession will also be among the project’s directors. Francesca Gardiner will take on both writing and producing roles, while Mylod will direct several episodes and serve as an executive producer.
Francesca Gardiner has proven her talent with projects like His Dark Materials on HBO and Killing Eve on BBC America. Mark Mylod is an experienced director who has worked on popular HBO series such as Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and Entourage.
Last year, he won an Emmy for the "Connor’s Wedding" episode of Succession. The film series featured Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint in iconic roles. This new adaptation aims to attract a new generation of fans with an entirely new cast.
While the first season is expected to debut in 2026, the exact release date has yet to be announced.
