George R.R. Martin Hints at 'House of the Dragon' Season 2 Concerns

George R.R. Martin, the mastermind behind the Game of Thrones universe, has broken his silence about Season 2 of House of the Dragon. The American fantasy author recently hinted that he'll soon spill the beans on what's not sitting right with him in the latest installment of the hit TV series.

Remember how Game of Thrones took over our screens from 2011 to 2019? Well, its prequel, House of the Dragon, swooped in last year to give us more of that dragon-filled drama we've been craving. But here's the kicker: some book fans aren't too thrilled with how the show sometimes strays from Martin's Fire & Blood novel.

At a recent event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Martin faced a flurry of questions from curious fans. Many were itching to know what he thought about the "changes" made in the TV version. While he gave a thumbs up to episodes like "Rhaenyra the Cruel" and "The Red Dragon and the Gold," he didn't shy away from pointing out a few nitpicks. For instance, he mentioned that some of the dragon house banners weren't quite right.

This isn't the first time Martin has spoken about TV adaptations. He once said:

"They never make it better. Nine hundred and ninety-nine times out of a thousand, they make it worse. They're adapting Dickens, or Tolkien, or Shakespeare, or whoever it is, and they decide they're going to make it their own, but they never make it better."

Ouch! While it's not clear if he was talking about House of the Dragon specifically, some fans at the recent panel thought they sensed some tension between Martin and the show's producers.

A now-deleted Reddit post claimed Martin said:

"Season 1 of House of the Dragon was great. Season 2... not so much. I'll be writing a blog post about it."

Later, on his personal blog, Martin wrote:

"I'm not looking forward to the other posts I need to write about what went wrong with House of the Dragon... but I need to do that too, and I will."

Don't worry, though! House of the Dragon is expected to run for four seasons in total. And if that's not enough to quench your Westeros thirst, HBO is cooking up seven more Game of Thrones spin-offs!
