Finn Jones' Iron Fist: Deserves Another Shot?

Should Finn Jones' Iron Fist be given another chance within the Marvel Cinematic Universe? After years of speculation about integrating Netflix Marvel characters, and with the successful returns of Daredevil and Kingpin, it's time to reconsider Iron Fist's potential within the MCU.

Marvel Studios has begun incorporating characters from its former Netflix shows into the main MCU timeline, with Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio reprising their roles. This raises the question: could Finn Jones also return as Danny Rand?

While Daredevil receives much love, the possible return of other characters like Jessica Jones and The Punisher opens doors for more revivals. Mike Colter's willingness to revisit Luke Cage makes it logical to consider a fresh start for Iron Fist.

The initial reception to Iron Fist on Netflix was mixed. Despite the success of other Marvel-Netflix collaborations, Iron Fist was considered a misstep. Early controversy surrounded the casting of Jones, and the show's pacing and tone didn't resonate with audiences as much as other Marvel series.

Even shows with initial struggles, like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., eventually found their footing and developed dedicated fanbases.

Addressing Past Criticisms

Marvel can address criticisms regarding race and privilege in a new Iron Fist series. Satirizing Danny Rand's advantages could provide relevant social commentary.

The Defenders the dynamic between Luke Cage and Danny Rand, exploring themes of privilege and societal advantages. A reunion of Colter and Jones in a "buddy cop" style adventure would be a welcome addition to the MCU.

The Potential for a Stronger Iron Fist Story

The second season of Iron Fist showed significant improvement, addressing many of the issues from the first season. It shifted from corporate boardroom drama to exploring various martial arts practices within New York City.

While the Netflix show had decent fight scenes, a Disney+ production could elevate the action to a new level, particularly given the resources available. The fight choreography in Daredevil: Born Again has been widely praised, demonstrating the potential for compelling action within the MCU.

Even with better material, Jones could deliver a stronger performance. Furthermore, Iron Fist compelling supporting characters who deserve to return to the MCU.

Colleen Wing, initially a sidekick, evolved into a formidable action hero. Ward Meechum, portrayed by Tom Pelphrey, also showed potential as an antihero. These characters deserve further exploration within the MCU.
