So much exciting information has been released for Disney Lorcana, let's break it down so you don't miss a thing!

"Fabled": Iconic Cards, "A Goofy Movie," and Card Rotation

While details are still emerging about "Fabled," the teases from the Disney Lorcana team are making the wait until the pre-release on August 29 and the wide release on September 5 even more difficult. One of the biggest additions to Disney Lorcana with "Fabled" will be cards based on "A Goofy Movie," though the specific cards are still under wraps. However, it has been revealed that Mickey and Minnie Mouse will be the very first Iconic Cards.

Iconic Cards will be the rarest cards in Lorcana, with only two appearing in each set going forward. These Mickey and Minnie cards, depicting them on a carousel, will be highly sought after by collectors and players alike. In addition to Iconic Cards, "Fabled" will introduce Epic Cards, which will be rarer than Legendary cards but not as difficult to obtain as Enchanted or Iconic cards. These Epic Cards will feature unique artwork and foil treatments, giving players more opportunities to find special cards, such as a new Elsa (Snow Queen) card.

Another significant change coming with "Fabled" is the introduction of card rotation, which will make certain cards ineligible for competitive play. In the top-level competitive format, known as Core Constructed, players will not be able to use cards from the first four Lorcana sets. This is done to keep the metagame fresh and encourage new strategies.

Don't Worry, Older Cards Still Have a Place

Fans of older cards need not worry, as there will be plenty of ways to use them, including in a new format called Infinity Constructed. Furthermore, "Fabled" will include reprinted cards from earlier sets, such as Winnie the Pooh (Hunny Wizard), which will be fully usable in competitive play. This allows players to continue enjoying their favorite cards while keeping the competitive scene dynamic.

“To keep the competitive game thriving, rotating out older cards to encourage new strategies and fresh deck designs is a really important part of the next chapter,” said Ryan Miller, Brand Manager and Co Designer of Disney Lorcana TCG at Ravensburger. “But because we know there are cards in those early sets that are important to a lot of fans’ deck-building strategies, and we know not everybody got the cards they wanted the first year, we’re re-printing some cards from those first sets in Fabled . Including Enchanted versions of some fan favorites!”

For those new to Lorcana, the Collection Starter Set offers a great way to jump into the trading card game. This set includes four "Fabled" booster packs, a Tinker Bell (Giant Fairy) "Glimmer Foil" Promo Card, a card portfolio featuring Mickey Mouse (Brave Little Tailor) on the cover, and a collector's guide.

"Reign of Jafar" and a New Co-Op Adventure

As mentioned earlier, "Reign of Jafar," the eighth Lorcana set, will be available in pre-release on May 30 and wide release on June 6. This set continues the ongoing story in Lorcana, focusing on the Disney villain Jafar. According to the Lorcana team, "Jafar now possesses the Hexwell Crown and, with it, he has corrupted Archazia’s Island to his wicked will. Traps and illusions abound in Reign of Jafar , and glimmers like Jasmine – Steady Strategist and Rapunzel – High Climber will need to band together to steal back the crown and defeat the evil vizier."

Alongside "Reign of Jafar," players can participate in Illumineers' Quest: Palace Heist, a new "co-op experience-in-a-box" where up to four players team up to face Jafar and his minions. The set will feature cards like Bambi (Prince of the Forest), Flower (Shy Skunk), Thumper (Young Bunny), Jafar (High Sultan of Lorcana), Magic Carpet (Phantom Rug), and Aladdin (Vigilant Guard), among others.

Future Teases: "Whispers in the Well" and Darkwing Duck

During the presentation, Disney revealed that the set following "Fabled" will be called "Whispers in the Well" and is expected to arrive in Q4 2025. While details are scarce, key art suggests the inclusion of Mickey, Ariel, and possibly characters from Disney's Gargoyles. A new type of Glimmer is also hinted at.

Perhaps most excitingly, the team confirmed that Darkwing Duck will be joining Lorcana in 2026, fulfilling a long-standing request from fans.

Get Ready for the Disney Lorcana World Championship

The competitive scene in Lorcana is about to explode with the Disney Lorcana World Championship, taking place on June 28 and 29 at Walt Disney World. Players from around the globe will compete for the title of the first annual Disney Lorcana TCG World Champion. Fans who can't attend in person can follow the event live on Twitch.TV/DisneyLorcana, with commentary from Rebekah ( RebekahQuests ), Baker ( LorcanaVillain ), Liam ( The Illumiteers ), Brandon ( Bsquared24 ), and JD ( JDZ Quest ).
