Deadpool & X-Men Team-Up? Ryan Reynolds Reportedly Exploring Movie Idea
Ryan Reynolds is reportedly in the preliminary stages of developing a film that would unite Deadpool with several members of the X-Men. While no formal pitch has been made to Marvel Studios, the actor is said to be exploring ideas for this ensemble project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds envisions a movie where Deadpool, while present, wouldn't necessarily be the central character. Instead, he would the spotlight with three or four other prominent X-Men, with the intention of showcasing these mutants in surprising and innovative ways.
A Different Approach to the X-Men
This potential film appears to be following a similar developmental path as Deadpool & Wolverine. Sources suggest Reynolds often spends considerable time independently shaping his concepts before presenting them to Marvel. The initial concept for Deadpool & Wolverine, for example, began as a low-budget road trip adventure.
It's also worth noting that this isn't the first time we've heard rumblings about Reynolds working on a Deadpool "ensemble" movie. However, this latest report provides a clearer picture of the kind of team-based adventures the Merc With a Mouth might find himself in.
Which Mutants Could Join?
As for which X-Men characters might join forces with Deadpool, that remains a mystery. Deadpool has a history of interacting with mutants, having encountered various members of the X-Men, and their adversaries, in previous films. These include Wolverine, Colossus, Sabertooth, Pyro, and even a cameo by Channing Tatum as Gambit.
This project is reportedly separate from the X-Men movie currently being written by Michael Lesslie (known for his work on Hunger Games), suggesting a distinct direction for the mutant franchise.
