David Fincher to Adapt "Squid Game" into American Version

David Fincher is working on an early remake of "Squid Game". Netflix's most popular South Korean series is set to hit screens in an American version.

Released in 2021, the first season of "Squid Game" on Netflix became one of the streaming platform's most profitable shows. In its first six months, the series was watched for 1.65 billion hours, breaking records and winning six Primetime Emmy Awards.

Netflix first capitalized on the show's success with "Squid Game: The Challenge," a reality competition series, and then decided to move forward with an American adaptation.

David Fincher, who previously adapted the Swedish film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" in 2011, will helm this new project. According to The Playlist, Fincher will work with Dennis Kelly, known for "Utopia" and "Matilda the Musical," to write the script. The report also suggests that this project will be Fincher's next directorial effort. Known for his films such as "Seven" (1995), "Fight Club" (1999), "Zodiac" (2007), "The Social Network" (2010), and "Gone Girl" (2014), Fincher has also worked with Netflix on "Mank" and "The Killer," as well as being part of the production team for the series "Mindhunter".

It is currently unknown when the American version of "Squid Game" will be officially announced or which actors will be involved.
