Chris Evans Returns to Marvel for 'Avengers: Doomsday' Alongside RDJ
Marvel Studios is kicking off its new era with a bang. According to an exclusive report from The Wrap, Chris Evans is officially joining 'Avengers: Doomsday,' marking another major return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe alongside Robert Downey Jr.
The film, helmed by the Russo Brothers (directors of the blockbuster hits 'Infinity War' and 'Endgame'), is shaping up to be one of Marvel's most ambitious projects yet. While Downey Jr. is confirmed to return in a new role different from his iconic Iron Man character, Evans's specific role remains under wraps.
Star-Studded Cast Assembles
The casting news becomes even more intriguing with Anthony Mackie's confirmed involvement. Mackie, who currently holds the mantle of Captain America and will star in 'Captain America: Brave New World' (releasing February 14, 2025), will continue wielding the shield in 'Doomsday.'
The film boasts an impressive ensemble including the new Fantastic Four lineup:
Pedro Pascal
Joseph Quinn
Vanessa Kirby
Ebon Moss-Bachrach
Multiverse Madness Continues
'Avengers: Doomsday' will heavily feature the multiverse concept, potentially bringing together different versions of the original Avengers team. This opens up fascinating possibilities for Evans's role - he could appear as an elderly Steve Rogers, an alternate universe version of Captain America, or even a completely different character altogether.
The film begins production next year and is scheduled for release on May 1, 2026. It will serve as a crucial piece of Marvel's Multiverse Saga, with its sequel 'Avengers: Secret Wars' following on May 7, 2027.
Evans's Marvel Legacy
Evans first donned the star-spangled suit in 2011's 'Captain America: The First Avenger,' leading to beloved performances in 'The Winter Soldier' and 'Civil War.' His most recent Marvel appearance was in 'Deadpool & Wolverine,' where he reprised his role as Johnny Storm from Fox's 2000s Fantastic Four films. Recently, he's starred alongside Dwayne Johnson in 'Red One,' Emily Blunt in 'Pain Hustlers,' and Ana de Armas in 'Ghosted.'
