Barry Keoghan to Play Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes' Ambitious Beatles Film Series

Irish actor Barry Keoghan, known for his acclaimed performances in "The Banshees of Inisherin" and "Saltburn," has been confirmed to portray Beatles drummer Ringo Starr in an upcoming biopic series directed by Sam Mendes.

The news was confirmed by Ringo Starr himself during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight. The 84-year-old musician expressed enthusiasm about Keoghan's casting, noting, "I think it's great. I believe he's taking drum lessons somewhere, and I hope he doesn't need too many."

Sam Mendes' Innovative Four-Film Approach

Mendes, the director behind "American Beauty," "1917," and "Skyfall," is taking an unprecedented approach to telling the Beatles' story. The project will consist of four separate films, each focusing on a different band member's perspective. "I'm honored to tell the story of the greatest rock band of all time," Mendes stated. "I'm excited to challenge the concept of what it means to go to the cinema."

Potential Cast Members

While Keoghan's role is confirmed, other casting decisions remain in development:

Paul Mescal is in talks to play Paul McCartney, though the actor has stated that nothing is finalized

Harris Dickinson ("The Triangle of Sadness") is rumored to portray John Lennon, but negotiations are ongoing

The role of George Harrison has yet to be announced

Project Scope and Timeline

The film series will chronicle the Beatles' journey through their breakup in 1970, offering unique perspectives from each band member. Sam Mendes will direct and produce all four films, with a planned release throughout 2027.
