Anya Taylor-Joy to Star as Killer in Netflix's "How to Kill Your Family"
Guess who's back on Netflix? It's none other than Anya Taylor-Joy, and this time, she's got murder on her mind! The star is set to lead a new thriller series called "How to Kill Your Family." Excited? You should be!
From Chess Queen to Family Assassin
Remember how Taylor-Joy wowed us in "The Queen's Gambit"? Well, she's trading in her chess pieces for some seriously wicked plans. In this new 8-part series, she'll play Grace Bernard, a character with a killer instinct - literally!
A Story of Revenge Served Ice Cold
Grace's story is like a twisted family tree with some rotten apples. Her dad, Simon Artemis, is a filthy rich guy who couldn't care less about her. Grace and her mom had to fend for themselves because Simon claims he doesn't even remember the relationship that led to Grace's birth. Talk about daddy issues!
After her mom dies and her family gives her the cold shoulder, Grace decides to turn her anger into something "productive." And by productive, we mean she starts picking off her distant relatives in super creative (and super messed up) ways. Yikes!
From Page to Screen: A Bestseller Comes to Life
"How to Kill Your Family" isn't just some made-up story. It's based on a super popular book by Bella Mackie that's been flying off the shelves since 2021. Over 1.2 million copies sold? That's a lot of people rooting for a fictional killer!
Anya's Excitement is Contagious
Taylor-Joy is pumped about this new role. She said:
"The moment I turned the last page, I knew I had to be part of bringing this story to life. After stalking Bella Mackie a bit (in a totally non-creepy way), I couldn't be more thrilled to collaborate with the dream team of Sally, Lizzie, and Emma. Can't wait to get our hands dirty!"
Behind the Scenes: A Dream Team Assembles
This show is a big deal for Netflix and Sid Gentle Films Ltd. (the folks behind "Killing Eve"). They're teaming up for the first time, and they've got some serious talent on board:
Emma Moran (from "Extraordinary") is the head writer and executive producer.
Taylor-Joy is also putting on her producer hat with LadyKiller Productions Inc.
Sally Woodward Gentle, Lizzie Rusbridger, and Lee Morris are executive producing for Sid Gentle.
Bella Mackie, the mastermind behind the book, is co-executive producing.
Words from the Creator
Bella Mackie is thrilled about the adaptation:
"Seeing the characters I wrote come to life under this amazing creative team is so exciting. Anya is the perfect choice to play Grace - sometimes I think she understands Grace better than I do!"
When Can We Watch It?
Hold your horses, folks! We don't have a release date yet. They haven't even started filming! But don't worry, we'll keep you posted on all the juicy details as they come in.
In the meantime, why not pick up Mackie's book? It'll give you a head start on all the family drama and dark humor coming your way!
